CIRCULAR ECONOMY

1/4/20251 min read

Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy is no small feat. It requires navigating three critical factors: Value, Access, and Process (or “VAP”):

  • Value: The worth of products and materials impacts a company's ability to recapture and extend their lifecycle.

  • Access: By establishing effective reverse logistics and partnerships, brands can smartly “plan” for the post-use phase of their products.

  • Process: Through advanced technologies and systemic approaches, the mission is to transform reclaimed materials into high-value products.

One global giant that has embraced these challenges head-on is
Adidas, putting these principles into action:

👕 T-REX (Textile Recycling Excellence): Bringing together 13 key stakeholders, this EU project led by
adidas aims to create a scalable circular economy for textiles by transforming end-of-use household textiles into valuable feedstock through closed-loop sorting and recycling.

🧶 New Cotton Project: Partnering with Infinited Fiber Company, this initiative scales chemical recycling technology for cotton textile waste, advancing circularity in the fashion industry.

🧩 Fashion for Good:
Adidas leads the ‘Sorting for Circularity’ project in the USA, developing a framework to map garment lifecycles, capture textile waste, and unlock recycling potential—key steps in transitioning the fashion industry to circularity.

👟 FastFeetGrinded: Testing shoe recycling processes,
adidas explores scalable solutions for the footwear industry by deconstructing shoes into components for repurposing and reuse.
