Annually, Goodwill keeps over 3 billion pounds of goods out of landfills by reselling or recycling donated items.

Revenue from these efforts funds community programs that provide job training, career placement, and support services for over 300,000 individuals each year.

In August 2024, Goodwill launched a $2 million traceability study funded by the Walmart Foundation, focused on advancing secondhand textile reuse and recycling. Building on a successful two-year pilot, this initiative aims to:

Analysis revealed 60% of textiles studied—cotton, polyester, and blends—were recyclable using existing technologies.

Creation of four regional textile hubs, involving 25 Goodwill organizations, to sort and grade reusable materials.

This effort positions Goodwill as a leader in the textile-to-textile recycling market, committed to driving waste reduction, accountability, and innovation across the industry.
