In August 2024, Goodwill launched a $2 million traceability study funded by the Walmart Foundation, focused on advancing secondhand textile reuse and recycling. Building on a successful two-year pilot, this initiative aims to:

Analysis revealed 60% of textiles studied—cotton, polyester, and blends—were recyclable using existing technologies.
Creation of four regional textile hubs, involving 25 Goodwill organizations, to sort and grade reusable materials.
This effort positions Goodwill as a leader in the textile-to-textile recycling market, committed to driving waste reduction, accountability, and innovation across the industry.
